Your Garden Is An Eco System

Ecological Gardening is both functional and appealing to the eye, providing resources and habitat for wildlife.

By utilizing native plant material, succession techniques and with biodiversity in mind, our goal is to enhance landscapes so that all living things can enjoy.

For thousands of years Indiana flourished with rich forests, tall grass prairies and diverse wildlife. When we add native plants to our garden we’re restoring vital food and habitats for our dwindling population of birds, butterflies, bees and animals to survive.

It’s time to get back to our roots!

Driven By Passion

While working at a local plant nursery, I was introduced to the work of Doug Tallamy, an entomologist, conservationist, and educator . The book was titled:Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife With Native Plants. His book educated me on the importance of this creating biodiverse landscapes to sustain wildlife. From that point forward, it is my practice to choose plants for designs that are benefical to our local ecology, as well as beautiful. There is a greater purpose than just beauty for our landscape plants, beauty is just a perk!

-Andrea R.

There are 4 ecological functions an landscape must acheive in order to sustain our natural world, according to Tallamy:

Four Landscape Ecological Goals

  1. They must support a diverse community of pollinators throughout the growing season.

  2. They must provide energy for the local food web.

  3. They must manage the watershed in which they lie.

  4. They must remove carbon from the atmosphere where it is wreaking havoc on the earth’s climate.
